The Centurion Project, founded in 2019 at Fort Bragg, NC, grew out of Rich Culp’s work with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE) and its North America division, EveryEthne. The mission of The Centurion Project is to empower churches to support and strengthen military leaders in their role in the Great Commission.
By offering individualized coaching, seminars, and practical resources, The Centurion Project equips military leaders to faithfully and intentionally lead their families and teams. Recognizing the strategic opportunity within the military, particularly at Fort Liberty—the world’s largest U.S. military base by population and home to over 55,000 military personnel and the Joint Special Operations Command—the project connects churches with this unique community, many of whom deploy to areas closed to traditional missionaries.
Currently, 20 churches across five denominations have partnered to “Capture Fort Bragg with the Gospel and deploy disciple-makers all over the World.” These partnerships have mobilized both churches and military leaders to deliver mobile, modular theological education—most recently to over 100 church leaders in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
The journey alongside the churches surrounding the world’s largest military base has shed light on the critical need to address active-duty military suicide and trauma. We made it a ministry priority to provide educational and discipleship opportunities to churches, families, active-duty and veterans in order to make a difference in the lives of those struggling with military trauma.
In 2023 the development of Mission:Hike began as an avenue of connecting with military families in a way that is personal and life changing. Mission:Hike takes participants and their support person on outdoor experiences that will be fun, encourage new bonds, and challenge them spiritually, mentally, and physically.
We have been honored to have the Warrior 180 Foundation join The Centurion Project in 2024. This Christ-centered organization was established to reach out to military, veterans, first responders, and their families with the saving grace of Jesus Christ by teaching and training in local communities. Our goal is to come along side these warriors with comfort, support, resources, hope, and help for the struggles they are facing.
